Because Kyle wouldn't give the Maître d' head.

Mmmm REEF.
Having dinner at this mid-town seafood restaurant is an experience, to say the least. You get to hear yourself order trendy things, such as the the snapper carpaccio, with grapefruit agra dolce and garlic bruschetta as an appetizer and then the grilled amberjack with plantain and long bean saute in pickled plum jus as an entree. Don't forget the Thyme after Lime martini made with a base of grapefruit juice and gin.

Absolutely Delicious, highly recommended for peeps who like seafood, drinks and pretentious menus.

Ah, the Fourth of July.
There's nothing more American spending obscene amounts of money towards blowing pretty shit up to appease the masses.
(Bread and circuses are sooooo Roman Empire.) Besides, fireworks show how much we truly care about the environment. And the poor. And our National debt. (Calm down and remember Rule #20 mmk? No matter how much I mock the holiday, I still ADORE it. Even if this leaves me slightly disgusted with myself...)

Buy the ticket, watch the FILM.
(Seriously though. Go do it. Now.) Gonzo, the Hunter S. Thompson documentary, came out today. I thought it was pretty amazing, especially since I didn't know most of his background story going in. Then again, I can't objectively say whether or not it was actually a good movie since I'd probably end up enjoying anything that has to do the good Doctor. (This explains why I intend to buy all promotional material for the flick: the movie poster pictured here and a handful of severed kitten heads seared with F&L quotes. Delicious.)

And then there was the BBQ,
and it was good.
Learned something new today: apparently they make jalapeño flavored burger patties. Apparently they are quite delicious.
Many props to Alex-Randy-Viren on being great hosts. I can't wait to kill you all and claim the house. *ahem* I mean, move in for the school year.
Daft Punk is Playing in My Head, MY HEAD.
The walk back to the Esplanade to watch fireworks was trippy as fuck. Mostly because the medical center at night is absolutely GORGEOUS. You lose yourself in the pretty colors. (And find yourself in the Bright Lights, Big City *happy sigh*) And just so you know, I did actually have Daft Punk and LCD Soundsystem reverberating through my skull the entire time. I was living a James Murphy music video. I can now die happy.

Fireworks. are. visual. orgasms.
I have just decided this.

Soulwax remix, anyone?

Disappear Here.

DAY FOUR

Today was our first chill day. Both of my cousins returned to work so my grandma and I did some necessary shoppin' (not the cool computer kind, I'm afraid). Grocery shopping for ingredients to make her delicious Thai coconut soup (ginger, lemongrass, asparagus, celery, basil, chicken broth, coconut milk, straw mushrooms, pure deliciousness) and jeans shopping so that my legs won't freeze and fall off as soon as the sun goes down (I found the perfect pair. I may actually wear them.)

In other news, I started reading Less Than Zero (it's just as dark and deliciously desolate as last time) to make up for the the grotesque overdosing of chick flicks inflicted upon me by my grandma and younger cousin. They've been setting up marathons each night assuming I'd want to be included just because I'm female (incorrect on both counts unfortunately.) But whatever, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make to hang out with my family. Besides, this is great practice in learning to suppress maniacal laughter and caustic commentary (which also comes in handy for weddings and well... daily life in general.) In any case, I think it's funny that I can read and adore such depressing books, while the only thing that truly kills my spirit is a good romantic comedy. (Elizabethtown, PS I love you, and did I mention that I saw Bridget Jones 1 & 2 in the same sitting? I wanted to stab myself in the face. I should win some kind of award for surviving the experience.)

Maybe if my T-shirt is hip enough, people will overlook my glaring personality flaws.

So I know that Radiohead can no longer be considered indie since more than five people have heard of them (a downfall that can be attributed partly to Starbucks for having the audacity to play "In Rainbows" and partly to the fact that oh, I don't know, some people like their music.) However, regardless of the current status of Radiohead's music on the indie-o-meter, I have faith that their concert tees would score somewhere above Vonnegut and thick-rimmed glasses (but slightly below pretentious smirks and artsy coffeeshops.) Why, you ask? Do you think you are ready for this?
These shirts are made from certified organic cotton and 100% certified... recycled plastic bottles. Yes. Plastic bottles. This is to reduce air water and soil contamination, reduce use of energy and oil, reduce pollution et cetera et cetera. I've heard rumors they also reduce the levels of carbon in the atmosphere and the levels of ignorance of the general populace. Basically, every time you buy one of these shirts, God masturbates. Ohsnap American Apparel, you have officially been out-hipstered!

There were 6 or so different shirts, all screened with thoughful, emo-tinged lyrics:
"you're going to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking"
"i am trapped in this body and can't get out"
"you used to be alright, what happened"
(with assortment of backslashes, underscores, and unnecessary spaces scattered throughout, of course.)

So there you go. It's save the environment meets no one understands me. Hippie, meet hipster. A whole new brand of indiefuck. Even if people think Radiohead is overrated, hell, at least they are making quality look-at-me-I-saved-the-planet-AND-appreciate-good-
music-(please-love-me!)
tee shirts. AND get this genius: the back of the shirt has the lyrics printed in reverse so you can wear it inside-out to let everyone see the tag and still be able to read it (thankgod!) The printed tag goes into a detailed discussion of how the plastic is turned into clothing fibres, chemical processes and all. Whoa- environmentally friendly, lyrically introspective, AND scientific? Wearing this shirt increases my coolness level to OVER NINE THOUSAND!* But seriously, they are pretty damn cool.

Now that you know how awesome and enlightened my shirt is, I'm sure it justifies my current obsession with the song it references. It's as if the thought was taken straight out of my mouth and plastered onto a recycled plastic/organic cotton canvas.
ha-HA. Figurative word vomit.
But seriously, it speaks to me.

*Admittedly there is a good bit of hypocrisy in mocking the very T-shirt I paid 40 bucks for. But I'm ignoring that for now. It was a fucking Radiohead concert, okay? Honestly, if they had been selling severed kitten heads with song lyrics seared into them I would have bought one.
Or two, depending on the songs chosen.
